My first memories of being interested in photography were when I was about 5 or 6. I remember being in the darkroom developing photos with my aunt, it was dimly lit with red light and there was the sharp smell of chemicals in the air. We were developing a photograph of a bird, and I remember thinking, this is the most magical place.
Throughout my life, I was often that person at an event that had a camera. It wasn’t until 2008 that I invested in a digital SLR and some lenses, and actually began to learn the art of photography.
In July of the following year we lost a family member in a car accident. The rest of that year was a blur, and photography became an escape for me. I would pick up my camera and when I would look through the lens, it was like I was somewhere else.
At first I only enjoyed taking photos of still life and landscapes. But a few years ago I began photographing weddings, and portraits. The greatest moment for me during a wedding or a photo shoot is taking a beautiful photo, showing my client the back of the camera, and watching their face light up because I have captured their beauty or an incredible moment.
I started in the Wedding Industry about 7 years ago, and have met some truly amazing couples and have had the privilege to photograph so many absolutely beautiful love stories. By the end of 2017 I will have shot close to 200 weddings! It is such an honour for me to be invited into a family for a day and tell their story.
When I don’t have my camera in hand you can find me hanging out with my most favourite person in the whole world, my 11 year old son, Austin.
